There are four disciplines in Snowboarding Competition in Ontario; Snowboard Ontario offers competitive events in all four disciplines at our Ontario Championships as well as Series events in both Snowboardcross and Alpine Race. In addition we offer C~S Riders development level events incorporating all disciplines into training and competition. There are a number of Industry freestyle events that take place in Ontario as well.
Alpine is a snowboard race in which athletes are timed either individually or in Parallel. Sub disciplines include Giant Slalom and Slalom.
Snowboardcross (SBX) is a type of snowboard race in which several competitors (usually four) race down a custom-made course over various types of terrain and obstacles in an attempt to be the first across the finish line.
Halfpipe is a competitive event in which athletes perform a variety of tricks and aerial maneuvers within the Halfpipe (U shaped with near vertical walls)
Slopestyle is a competitive event for freestyle snowboarders that involve an athlete performing tricks in the air as well as on rails and boxes. Competitors are awarded points for style and difficulty of their run by a group of judges.
