Funding will Assist in Sport Development

The Ontario Trillium Foundation has continued its commitment to Sport in our Province by awarding the Association of Ontario Snowboarders with a 3 year Grant worth more than $130,000

This OTF grant, submitted by AOS will develop the sport of Snowboarding in collaboration with Mount St Louis Moonstone, Women’s Snowboard Federation and Canada Snowboard and based on the principles and strategies outlined in the Long Term Athlete Development Plan (LTAD).The OTF funding will support AOS’s development of the RBC Riders, Women in Snowboarding and Provincial Championships.

A portion of the funding will be utilized to further develop The RBC Riders program for grassroots aged 6-12 year old athletes. AOS has been successful in promoting the program but with the support of the OTF will now be able to increase the reach and depth of the program. RBC Riders will be the strong base on which AOS programs are built.

AOS will also now have the ability to secure FIS level events in conjunction with our existing Provincial Championships; the ability to offer our Ontario athletes with this competition will provide them the opportunity to participate in elite level events within Ontario.

The Women in Snowboarding collaboration will allow AOS to support the development of our female athletes, officials and coaches in the sport of snowboarding. In addition AOS will work towards developing a series of ongoing women’s snowboard clinics, events, and training workshops that provide an environment that will focus on the specific needs of women/girls of all ages and ability levels.

The Association of Ontario Snowboarders was incorporated in 1998 to function as the Sport Governing Body for snowboarding in Ontario. The AOS sanctions, monitors and assists all competitive snowboarding programs in the province. Recognized as the Provincial Body by the Canadian Snowboard Federation, and the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport, it is the goal of the AOS to lead and coordinate the safe development and growth of the sport of snowboarding in Ontario.
